 DECKS

Skateboard decks are normally made with 7 plies of maple wood glued and laminated together.  Next the boards are cut to shape, sanded and finished.  The following factors must be considered when deciding which deck to purchase: length, width, shape, and whether concave or flat.  Each of these choices has a different effect on the ride.

  Length

Length of a board determines velocity and strength as well as skaters control of board.  Longboards are great for fast skating and stability that smaller boards can’t provide.  If you are downhilling, cruising or carving, longboards are the way to go.  If you are interested in tricks, the versatility of ramps, skateparks, or street skating,  a smaller board is what you need.

Compare the skater’s height to this chart:

Under 4’ = 29” or smaller

4’ to 4’10” = 29” to 30” long.

4’10” to 5’3” = 30.5” to 31.5” long.

Over 6’1” =  32.5” and up.

5’3’’ to 5’8” =  31.5” to 32” long.

5’8”  to 6’1” =  32” to 32.5” long.

 Width

For your skateboard’s width, it all depends on how big your feet are. Most skateboards are around 7.5” to 8” wide, but can be wider or narrower. If you have larger feet, get a wider skateboard deck.

Warning!!

Skateboarding can be a dangerous sport. A helmet is strongly recommended to avoid  head injuries, and pads are recommended if you want to have elbows and knees when you are through.

Do not expose your board to elements such as water or extreme heat. The board will start to separate and you will be out a board.
